Although I don’t remember drawing on the walls of my
parents’ house with crayons, art has been a part of my life
since I was very young. I have always been comfortable with a
pen or pencil in my hand and, being mechanically minded, I
was designing futuristic cars, jets and hydroelectric dams by
the time I was ten years old. I no longer have any of those
drawings but it is interesting and fun to see some similarities
between modern aircrafts and my sketches from decades ago.

Following school and a couple of unsatisfactory jobs, I
decided to start my own small design company. For 20 years I
designed, illustrated and produced logos, brochures and
advertising literature. I created trade show displays, built scale
models, designed homes, and I have drawn pen-and-ink
Harley-Davidson Motorcycles, antique cars and consumer
products by the thousands.

In spring of 2002 I was encouraged by one of my clients to
close my office and join their patent law firm. My current
position tends to defy description, but my primary function is
to interpret and illustrate inventions to be submitted for patent
applications. It’s interesting, widely varied, fun, provides
benefits and allows me time to be creative.

Other artistic media include scrathboard, pen and ink,
airbrush, pencil, wood, metal and concrete. My interests are
astronomy (how did you guess!), photography, woodworking
and numerous other hobbies.

MY THOUGHTS ON ART, ASTRONOMY AND SCIENCE -
I have always been fascinated by the night sky. Even growing
up within the bright glow of an urban area, I was still able to
point out constellations and watch Skylab fly overhead.

Watching the Apollo moon landing as a young boy, launching
model rockets and straining to look at celestial objects
through cheap telescopes only added to my interest in
astronomy, and science in general.

Today, many years later, I am still amazed at the beauty of the
universe. Over the years my skills at astronomy have
increased. I've kept up with the latest science and research,
and looking through better telescopes, my latest a home-built
8" Dobsonian. I have been fortunate to host numerous
presentations and viewings in which I have been able to show
the night sky to the general public who are eager to
understand real science. I feel that as a space artist I am able
to present not only creative artwork but also the real science
behind that creativity, as opposed to the fake and pseudo-
sciences that all too often are presented to the public.
