Who I Am

Art has always been a very important part of my life – my entire life. My vocations involved art, the commercial side of art but creativity and vision are required for all artwork whether it is a painting that hangs in a museum or a great ad campaign that launches a new product. My background embraces both graphic design and fine art. Each can learn from the other and both can be visual, striking and powerful in their own way.

Some of the artistic tools I use are a computer to design a new brochure, an ordinary pencil for a drawing, an airbrush for a painting, and steel tools for woodturnings. Not wishing to be focused on one style, I enjoy using a wide variety of methods and mediums and continuously strive to experiment and add to my knowledge. My primary interests are acrylic, wood and scratchboard and each of these methods allows me to express my ideas in very different ways.

My inspiration for art pieces often comes from nature, whether it is a flower, an insect or any other wonderful earthly object I might happen to encounter on a daily basis. It also extends to the farthest reaches of the cosmos. I have always had a fascination with the night sky and the science of astronomy and space exploration. Incorporating both the earth-bound subjects with the beautiful imagery of the vast universe allows me connect the two. We are all "star stuff" and I try to develop that concept in my art – by combining the beauty of the Earth and the majesty of the universe.
